Hope Beyond Your Lifetime
Hebrews 11:22
“By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones.”
Joseph has every reason to call Egypt home.
He has risen from slavery to power.
He lives in Egypt with influence, provision, and security.
If anyone could call this “home,” it would be Joseph.
But as he nears the end of his life, he tells his brothers something unexpected:
God will bring you out of here. And when He does—take my bones with you.
Joseph is looking hundreds of years into the future. He anchors his identity not in where he lives, but in what God has promised.
Even in success, he refuses to let Egypt define him.
His final act of faith is not something he does for himself—it is something he leaves for others to carry forward.
His bones become a testimony.
A quiet declaration:
This is not the end of the story.
Faith, here, stretches beyond a single lifetime. It trusts that God is still working, even when fulfillment is far off.
Joseph dies in Egypt—but he does not belong to it.
Reflection:
Where are you being tempted to settle instead of holding onto what God has promised?
Prayer:
Father, this is such a profound lesson. Joseph was given every advantage in life, yet he refused to let it hold him captive. He chose You, and it was his desire to have his testimony's final resting place in Your promise alone. Lord, help us learn from him. Give us strength to deny our flesh, and every accompanying pleasure, and make Your promises our destination. Amen.
