The Tower You Can Run To

The Name of the Lord [Yahweh] is a strong tower. Not your strength. Not your ability to fight back. Not your understanding of the situation. His Name!
The Tower You Can Run To

Yesterday we saw that the Name of the Lord is a place.

But what kind of place?

“A tower of strength is the name of Yahweh; into Him the righteous will run and be safe.” (Prov. 18:10 LEB)

Immediately, my mind went to a tower in ancient Jerusalem…
Like the Tower of David—a fortress rising above the city.

A tower wasn’t decorative.

It served as protection.
A military stronghold.
A place of refuge when the city was under siege.

When enemies advanced, you didn’t wander the streets.

You ran to the tower.

And once inside, everything changed.

You were no longer exposed.
No longer vulnerable.
No longer an easy target.

Now read the verse again:

The Name of the Lord [Yahweh] is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10 ESV)

Not your strength.
Not your ability to fight back.
Not your understanding of the situation.

His Name.

Your safety is not found in standing your ground—
Not in fighting back—
Not in analyzing the situation—

"... the battle belongs to Yahweh..." (1 Samuel 17:47 LEB)

Your safety... your peace... your protection...
They're found in knowing where to run.

His Name Is The Tower You Can Run To!

Prayer

Father, my natural response has always been to figure things out and make a plan in times of trouble. I want to fight back. At the very least, I am determined to stand my ground. Life would be so much easier if I would simply acknowledge the gift of Your presence—Your Name as my defense, my protection, my safety, and my peace. Help me recognize those moments when Your Name is my safety net... when Your Name is my place of refuge when under siege... when Your Name is the tower I can run to. Amen.
