The Name is a Place
Talk about a rabbit trail…
I’ve often followed a single verse only to find myself in the middle of something far deeper than I expected.
That recently happened while reading in Proverbs.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
I couldn’t move past one phrase:
The Name of the Lord.
In Hebrew thought, the name isn’t just what you call someone—it is who they are. Their nature. Their character. Their presence.
The righteous don’t run toward an idea…
They run into the name...
The name... is a person.
God is also known as HaShem—“The Name”—a Hebrew term for God. Literally, it means "the name." It is used to refer to God with deep reverence. And that stopped me again!
The Name… is a place.
Not distant. Not abstract. But a place of safety.
When trouble rises, what do we reach for first? Solutions? People? Control?
Scripture quietly redirects us: Run to the Name. Not eventually. Not as a last resort. But first.
Because the Name of the Lord is not fragile. The Name is not weak. The Name—it is strong enough to hold you and carry you through every trial, circumstance, and assault of the enemy.
And the righteous run into it... and are safe!
Prayer
Father, You are my Strong Tower. Help me really grasp the power of Your Name, not just to do the ordinary, but Your Name is strong enough to carry me through any circumstance I may find myself in. Remind me, Lord, when I'm in need of somewhere—someone to run to in my times of trouble. Thank You, Lord, for revealing Yourself to us in Your Name—the Name that is above every name. Amen.
