Black Saturday
Holy Saturday. Black Saturday. The day between. The day when everything seems… still.
Jesus’ body lies in a borrowed tomb. Wrapped in linen. Anointed with spices. Placed behind a sealed stone.
The crowds have gone quiet. The shouting has stopped. The movement of the week… has come to rest.
Scripture gives us very little detail about this day. Only a glimpse.
“So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.” (Matthew 27:66)
The religious leaders, still uneasy, take precautions.
A guard is posted.
The stone is sealed.
They will make certain this story ends here. And yet—even in their efforts to secure the grave… they cannot stop what has already been set in motion.
🌿 The Silence
For the disciples, this is a day of grief. A day of mourning. Fear has driven them into hiding. Hope feels buried. Everything they believed would happen… did not. He is gone...
The One they followed…
the One they trusted…
the One they loved…
And heaven is silent.
No miracles. No voice. No visible movement. Just waiting.
But, for what? They didn't know what to think.
🌿 The Hidden Work
Though His body lay in the cold, dark tomb—His work of redemption was not yet over.
“…the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” (1 Peter 1:19)
The price had been paid. The perfect, spotless Lamb had been sacrificed. The victory—though earned—was being secured.
Jesus descended—
Not as a sign of defeat but as a demonstration of His victory.
For Christ also suffered once for sins... being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey..." (1 Peter 3:18-20)
Jesus descended— to free the captives. Proclaim the good news.
Even in the darkest places, Jesus brings light and hope.
No situation is beyond redemption.
🌿 What This Day Holds
Saturday is the space between promise and fulfillment.
Between sorrow and joy.
Between what feels final…
and what is about to be revealed.
It is the day when faith is not sustained by sight—
but by trust.
🌿 Reflection
We all know this space.
The unanswered prayer.
The silent season.
The moment when God seems still and quiet.
But Black Saturday reminds us—
Silence is not absence.
Stillness is not defeat.
And what looks like an ending… may simply be the pause before faith becomes sight.
🙏 Prayer
Lord, when I sit in the silence— when I do not see You moving— when hope feels buried beneath what appears final— teach me to trust You still. Remind me that You are working even when I cannot see it. And because of victory on that silent Saturday, what feels like an ending… is NOT the end.
