Beauty of the Word
When I find others who care about studying God's Word, I feel drawn to watch and learn from them.
I feel connected to them.
Their passion to help others understand the importance of the Word of God in their lives.
They desire to dig deeper.
Dissatisfied with only the daily reading plans.
They need more to satisfy their hunger to know God
Rabbi Jason Sobel recently wrote:
“One of the beautiful things within Jewish tradition is the understanding that studying God’s Word is not just educational. It is deeply spiritual.
“In Judaism, Torah study has long been viewed as one of the highest forms of worship because when we open the Scriptures, we are not simply gathering information. We are drawing near to God. His Word shapes us, forms us, and brings us into His presence.
That’s why Scripture tells us to “study to show yourself approved” (2 Timothy 2:15).
“Studying God’s Word is not meant to be dry or distant. It is meant to transform us.
“The more we understand the Scriptures in their fullness, the more we begin to see God’s heart, His purposes, and the beauty of Yeshua woven throughout the story!”
I love what he wrote! He put into words what I find so difficult to describe at times.
Why is it such a big deal to me?
Because the Word of God truly shapes lives and deepens relationships with God for those who will study with a deep desire to learn more about the God we serve!
We don't need to be scholars, academics, or theologians to benefit from studying God's Word.
We have so many resources available to us to help us learn–to help us discern the will of God for our lives.
We have no excuse for not digging deep into the Word of God – not to meet some quota, but to shape our lives and deepen our relationship with God.
Learn to dig.
Cherish the moments spent in the Word.
Allow the Word to draw you closer to God.
Remember that studying God's Word is worship.
Reflection:
Through whose eyes or worldview do you read God's Word? Do you read? Or, do you study?
Prayer:
I pray that each of you, as you study God's Word, would encounter Him more deeply and allow His truth to shape every area of your life. Amen.
