Seasons of Refreshing: Winter

Nothing is quite as beautiful as freshly fallen snow. The frigid temperatures accentuate the shimmering blanket as the sun reflects off individual flakes that are as uniquely fashioned as each new day. As I think of winter, I’m reminded of gloves, boots, scarves, hats, jackets, leggings, and lots of excitement. The kids hurriedly bundle up, burst out the door and surprise the shimmering diamond-like blanket of snow to make forts, snow angels, and snowmen.

Beyond a playground for children, there is a divine purpose for the cold, dormant time of year. The shortened days of winter give the earth a rest from its labor, allowing it to resupply its store of nutrients to support the next growing season. Without the rain and snow, there is no seed for the sower and no bread to the eater. And as the rain and snow come down from heaven, the words that come from the mouth of God descend upon us to accomplish that which He purposed, and shall succeed in the things for which He sent them.
