The Next Forty Days

"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Cor 2:14)
The Next Forty Days

Do you ever wonder why some people just don’t see it? They look at us as if we’ve lost our minds—believing in a virgin birth, a voice from heaven declaring, “This is My beloved Son,” a cross, a grave… and an empty tomb.

Sometimes unbelievers grow uneasy—even resistant—when we try to share what we know to be true. They embrace the celebrations… yet reject the One we celebrate.

For forty days after He walked out of the tomb, Jesus did not disappear into mystery—He made Himself known.

📖
He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)

He met them in the ordinary and the unexpected:

  • On the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35)
  • In a locked room (John 20:19–23)
  • Along the shore at breakfast (John 21:1–14)

He invited them to see—and to touch:

  • “Look at My hands and My feet…” (Luke 24:39)
  • He ate before them (Luke 24:42–43)
  • He welcomed Thomas to place his fingers in His wounds (John 20:27)

He opened their understanding:

  • Unfolding the Scriptures (Luke 24:27)
  • Revealing the fulfillment of prophecy (Luke 24:44–45)
  • Clarifying their mission (Luke 24:46–49)

And He did a deep work within them:

  • Restoring Peter (John 21:15–17)
  • Commissioning them to go (Matthew 28:18–20)
  • Promising the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4–5)

And yet—even then—they didn’t fully see. They were still looking for something else. Still expecting an earthly kingdom.

📖
“Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”(Acts 1:6)

Their vision was shaped by what they had always thought. They were seeing Jesus through their expectation… not revelation.

And how often do we do the same? We look with natural eyes—limited to what is visible, explainable, manageable. But the Kingdom of God was never meant to be confined to what we can comprehend.

Jesus answered them not with a timeline—but with a promise: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you..." (Acts 1:8)

When Jesus stepped out of the grave that resurrection morning, aside from His glorious victory over death, He revealed a Kingdom without limits. Not bound by earth. Not restrained by human understanding. Not confined to time.

His Kingdom is eternal. His purposes—unrestricted. His reach—without end.

So when others don’t understand… don’t be discouraged. The answer to unbelief has never been argument. It has always been revelation. Revelation by the Spirit. The same was true for the disciples—and it is still true today.

The Spirit gives understanding. The Spirit teaches. The Spirit leads. He opens eyes to see beyond the natural… and gives boldness to witness—not only among the familiar, but “in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Prayer

Lord, when I’m tempted to grow frustrated, remind me—understanding doesn’t come by striving, but by Your Spirit. Open my eyes to see beyond what is visible. Teach me to walk in step with You—to speak with grace, to love without resistance, and to trust You with every heart I encounter. Give me boldness to share the truth… and gentleness to reflect Your heart. And where there is blindness, let Your Spirit bring light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
