Gird Up

"Get your thinking out of the way." Tuck in whatever is tripping you up. There's work to do!
Gird Up

This is Part One of a Seven-Part series on 1 Peter 1:13-19. Follow along closely – the Lord is encouraging His people to stand strong, even in the face of opposition and hardship, reminding us we've been bought with a price far more precious than silver or gold!

📖
"Therefore, preparing your minds for action..."
(1 Peter 1:13a)

Peter doesn't warm up slowly. He opens with therefore, which means everything he's about to say is rooted in what came before: the living hope, the inheritance, the salvation the prophets searched for and couldn't quite see.

Because of all that — now here's how you live.

"Preparing your minds for action" is literally, in Greek, gird up the loins of your mind. It's a laborer's image, a worker tucking his long robe into his belt so it doesn't tangle his feet.

Practical. Physical. Ready to move. Freely.

Peter is saying: "Get your thinking out of the way." Tuck in whatever is tripping you up. There's work to do.

That's a perfect reminder for the beginning of your day. Before Peter says a single word about what to do, he tells us how to think.

The mind comes first. What we dwell on shapes everything that follows — our choices, our habits, our capacity to hope.

So what's entangling your feet today?

Lord, show me what's out of control in my thinking — the worries I keep returning to, the old memories I keep replaying. Help me tuck them in. I want a mind that's ready — clear, focused, free to move however You lead. Amen.
